Overview of the various XML files
The connection of external devices and systems is realized based on a series of generic concepts. Accordingly, a considerable part of the development is spent on creating definitions instead of implementing specific functionalities.
XML is uniformly used as the format. This section describes the various XML definition files.

| Manifest XML | WinGuard | Generic description of a software module (X4 and AOP), including information concerning its management and start. |
| Module XML | WinGuard | Individual definitions for an AOP module, including Settings, object model, etc. |
| App XML | WinGuard | Defines the mapping of external Objects and Activities into the WinGuard App. 💡Here, adjustments can be made by the user. |
| Legacy XML | WinGuard | Special definitions required for the operation of an AOP device adapter under X4. |
| Config XML | Module | Optional configuration of an AOP Module as well as possibility for generic evaluation / implementation of communication protocols. 💡Here, a technician can make adjustments to quickly respond to changes in a third-party system. |
As can be seen, only the Config XML is used by the module itself, all other definitions are intended exclusively for the user of the module.
In some places in the files the same syntax is used for definition (e.g., Properties, variables, expressions, etc.). These are described in the section General.
