Overview

What is a Device Adapter?

Device Adapters are special AOP components which handles the connection of external devices and systems to WinGuard. This section describes concepts and should serves as a guide for development.

First of all the most important concepts are described in as bullet points including in particular the generic object model with Properties, States, Events and Operations as well as the mapping and the object hierarchy and the general principle of URLs.

An essential part in the development of each Device Adapter is the definition of such an object model and its mapping for WinGuard. The best practice is explained in detail in the XML definitions chapter. Basically a Device Adapter is free in the choice of its solution. However, to enable a comfortable integration, the Functionalities described under APP definitions should be supported.

The Device Adapter Services that an AOP component has to implement and use in order to function as Device Adapter, and the Basics of AOP development are described elsewhere in this document. However, usually it will not be necessary to concern yourself with these details because the available SDKs already cover all of that in their implementation.

The practice section contains a general workflow and further hints regarding the development.
