Overview

In order to be able to manage and operate the connected Objects across Extensions, WinGuard follows a four-tier concept. The elements described in this section can be used in the App XML for Mapping.

Classification of the Objects according to Domain
The domain can be considered as simple tag in order to arrange the multitude of Objects thematically. There is no further behavior linked to the domain. The assignment of device types is only used in the UI to offer these types for selection in a highlighted form. However, in principle, any device type can be selected in any domain.

Classification of Objects according to Device types
The device type can also be considered as a tag for arranging the Objects and does not cause any special behavior. The assigned Functionalities, in turn, are only used for highlighted selection upon assignment in the UI. In principle, however, any Functionality can be selected for each Object.

Evaluation of Object States and Events to App States and Events
The States and Events of Extension-specific Objects are mapped to different App States and App Events. All Events can be grouped by the App Event type. Also, the App States and Events are displayed in different styles and with customizable priorities.

Uniform understanding and control via Functionalities
In principle, Objects can also be filtered and ordered via Functionalities, but Functionalities are primarily intended to provide Objects with behavior. Common Properties and Operations enable the cross-Extensions understanding and control via uniform “EXTs”.

Furthermore, WinGuard offers predefined definitions for Extensions that can be used in the Module XML.

Application-specific Settings according to App Settings
WinGuard provides a set of predefined Extension Settings. The default value of these Settings can be overwritten by an Extension. These Settings are available for all Extensions, except some which are only available, if they are explicitly defined in the Extension’s Module XML.

Processes where several different Objects are involved via Activities
Objects can be involved in a process that must also be mapped by WinGuard. For this purpose, WinGuard offers a set of Activities. All Activities must be explicitly defined to the required extent in the Extension’s Module XML.

Controlling Objects in relation to an Event via Event Operations
Operations can be executed in relation to an Event. WinGuard offers a set of Event Operations that are sent in specific situations. All Event Operations must be explicitly defined in the Extension’s Module XML.

The current status of the definitions is based on the WinGuard X4 functional Skill, which was not yet familiar with this general concept. The definitions will be successively expanded in the near future as part of the Extension development.
